Pad Printing Pads

In selecting the proper pad printing pads for your needs, there are many shape considerations that you’ll need to keep in mind. Shape is a vital factor due to its impact on the rolling action of the pad printing pad.

You’ll need to make differences in your selection based on whether you’re printing flat or spherical objects, as spherical or curved objects will require a flatter pad to properly transfer the ink to the surface. You also want to avoid undersized pads that can cause distortion at the edges of your images. Perfectly flat printing pads may have air trapped between the pad and plate, which can lead to irregular ink pickup. Similarly, a pad printing pad that delivers too much pressure can cause ink distortion, causing issues with the print quality. In general, you will want to use the largest, hardest, and most pointed pad possible for your application to ensure ease of transfer to your part.

Choose The Right Size

When you’re selecting your pad printing pads, you’ll usually find that the larger the pad, the less distortion you’ll have in your image. Generally speaking, you’ll want to use a pad that is 20-30% larger than your image size. However, you’ll also be limited by the maximum pad size that your printing machine can accept. This is often dictated by the distance that is available between the machine’s body and the cliche plate, as well as how well it can compress hard and large pad printing pads.

The Durometer of Your Printing Pad

To select the right durometer, you’ll want to work with the hardest, or highest durometer, printing pad that has the sharpest angle to gain the best image printing quality. Exceptions to this relate to printing machine pad compression capability, pad height room, and substrate features such as shape, ability to resist pressure, and surface texture.

Teca-Print’s Pad Materials & Process

Our pads are created using a process that mixes silicon oil, raw silicon, and a catalyst. We pour this mixture into special molds that are designed to match different pad sizes and shapes. Unlike our competitors, our pads are molded, in-mold, to their wooden or aluminum bases. This allows us to produce a much more accurate and repeatable quality printing pad. Our pads are available in a wide range of hardness, as well as in specialty silicones such as “ultra-dry” or “anti-static” pads.

Printing Pad Quality & Life Expectancy

As with so many aspects of printing, the quality of the materials that you use plays a strong role in not only how well your printing will come out, but also how long your pad printing pads will last. We provide a full line of the highest quality silicones when we manufacture our pads for pad printing, which is why we can ensure that you’ll gain the highest possible accuracy for your placement, and longest life expectancy of your pads.

We combine a range of quality European and locally sourced silicones to provide exceptional quality at an economical price point. Our pads generally last for approximately 50,000 impressions, giving you a strong return on your investment, though you’ll gain more impressions based on maintenance of the pad printing pads, their storage between production runs, and the properties of the substrates onto which the printing is being done.
